Nicholas Bayo tripled and doubled, and Delbert McDermott doubled to lead Swoyersville to a 7-3 win over Green Ridge in Friday’s opening round of the American Legion District 5 tournament at Connell Park.
Trevor Klem picked up the win.
Brian Walsh topped Green Ridge with a double and a single.
Carbondale/Lakeland 10, Berwick 0
Guy Mushow pounded a triple and a double, driving in four runs as Carbondale/Lakeland whipped Berwick, 10-0, in six innings in Friday’s opening round of the American Legion District 5 tournament at Connell Park.
Winning pitcher Tyler Uram helped his own cause with a pair of hits and two RBIS, and Robbie Waters contributed two singles.
Jersey Shore 9, Wilkes Barre Plains 8, 9 innings
Owen Berry, Kellen Jackson and Kaiser Kitner all had three hits, one a double, and drove in two runs as Jersey Shore nipped Wilkes-Barre Plains in nine innings.
Jason Prudente cracked three hits, including a double, and knocked in three in a losing effort.
South Scranton 7, Greater Pittston 6
Joe Lalli ripped a two-out, two-run single that plated the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pace South Scranton.
Winning pitcher Jake Leonori got offensive support from Thomas Day, Bill Fox and Dylan Labukas, all collecting two hits. Labukas also had two RBIs.
Aiden Mehan led Greater Pittston with three hits. Jeremy Cawley homered and doubled, and Troy Davis and Hunter Lawall both had two hits.
Section 5 Baseball 9-11
At Dickson City, Jake Kwiatkowski and Jerry Jordan combined for six scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts to lead Abington to a 1-0 win over Greater Pittston Area.
Kwiatkowski also hit an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Back Mountain beat Mid Valley, 5-4, in the other game, but no further information was available.
Section 5 Softball 8-10
Back Mountain loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth, and Olivia Sears came through in the clutch, banging a three-run triple in a 10-8 win over Valley View in Friday’s Little League girls softball Section 5 tournament play Friday.
Sears also singled and Olivia Nora had the other hit for Back Mountain.
Chaqrlee Cole paced Valley View with a solo homer and two singles, scoring three times.
Victoria Brown added three hits and Natalie Paciotti singled twice
